Dr Susie Nyman

SIG Chair for Education

Specialist teacher at The Sixth Form College, Farnborough (retired)

Susie’s story started at Extoree 1982 in Gilwell Park. This was the first international camp for both disabled and able-bodied Scouts. Her subcamp was called Joey Deacon (who was born with cerebral palsy), and there she met Joey’s friend who was able to understand and interpret his speech and together they wrote his autobiography ‘Tongue Tied’.

For the last several years as an international speaker, podcaster, exam board moderator and CPD trainer, Susie has thoroughly enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experiences about incorporating Assistive Technology into everyday life.

Susie is passionate about discovering how children learn and supporting them in ways which enable them to succeed. She worked for thirty years at The Sixth Form College Farnborough, until retiring as a head of department and a specialist teacher in July 2025.
